"Put a few flowers - it can't be that difficult," many plant fans think. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong here, too. With our planting tips, however, you can certainly look forward to lush flowering and magnificent plants.

The soil should be loose and rich in nutrients

Set garden flowers professionally

Before you get the flowers for a colorful perennial bed, you should create a planting plan. When making your selection, consider the location and the required planting distances.

When inserting, proceed as follows:

  1. Fill a vat with water and add the plants with the flower pot.
  2. Remove all weeds from the bed and loosen the soil.
  3. Distribute the flowers in the bed according to the planting plan.
  4. Dig a planting hole with a shovel. This should be about a third larger than the container in which the plant was grown.
  5. Gently pull the flower out of the planter. If that doesn't work, cut open the pot with scissors.
  6. Plant the planting hole, fill it up with topsoil and press down carefully.
  7. Form a pouring edge two centimeters deep.
  8. Water well so that the soil is washed in around the roots.
  9. You should also use the watering can regularly over the next few days, because sufficient watering ensures that the plant grows well.

However, make sure that no waterlogging forms, as this leads to root rot. If the soil is heavy or heavily compacted, you should add an extra layer of drainage:

  • The planting hole is dug a little deeper.
  • Now fill in a layer of gravel or sand.
  • Optionally, you can improve the soil's permeability by mixing it with some gravel or sand.

Plant balcony flowers correctly

Give balcony flowers a sufficiently large planter, because the substrate can dry out very quickly if the volume is limited on hot days.

Proceed as follows when inserting the plants:

  1. If the water drainage holes have not yet been drilled open, open them.
  2. Place a potsherd over the holes. This prevents soil from being washed out when watering.
  3. Fill in a drainage layer of expanded clay (€19.73). This serves as a water reservoir and at the same time prevents waterlogging.
  4. Then put a layer of balcony plant substrate in the planter.
  5. Submerge the flower pot in a bucket filled with water until no more bubbles appear. This makes it easier for the bale to come out of the pot.
  6. If this is not enough, please do not pull on the plant, but cut open the container with scissors.
  7. Stagger the flowers at least a hand's breadth apart. This allows them to develop optimally and the flowers fall beautifully later.
  8. Fill with soil and gently press down. Form a pouring edge two centimeters deep.
  9. Water sufficiently.

tips

Look out for strong, lush green foliage and buds when buying. Also take a look under the leaves, because pests that can weaken the flower like to hide in this spot.
