Garden walls structure green areas and serve as privacy screens. However, they can also appear cramped and, as they age, convey a unkempt look. The small building cannot or should not always be renovated, sometimes demolition is desired. You can find out how to do this in this article.

The planning
Garden walls can usually be removed without any problems. However, demolition can leave a lot of dust and dirt behind. It is therefore advisable to coordinate the planned measure with the direct residents, especially at the property boundary.
Tear down the wall
In addition to a hammer and chisel, you can tackle the garden wall with an angle cutter with a diamond attachment or with a hammer drill. Be sure to wear it when doing this work
- breathing mask,
- Safety goggles,
- gloves and
- safety clothing.
Remove the foundation
Depending on how much rebar and what type of concrete was used, removing the strip of concrete can be quite a hassle. If no steel is used, make cuts at regular intervals with a diamond wheel and then knock off the pieces.
However, if reinforcement with structural steel is found, the only way forward at this point is with a jackhammer. This is very exhausting work. If the conditions permit, you should therefore rent a mini excavator with a chisel and backhoe.
remove rubble
A lot of rubble accumulates when a garden wall is demolished. It is worth renting a rubble container for disposal. In order to calculate the cost of this, you must first calculate the amount of rubble correctly. This is quite easy with a privacy screen:
The length x width x height of the wall equals the cubic meters of rubble.
In the same way you can calculate the resulting amount of foundation.
You may save money if you do not dispose of the garden wall as mixed construction waste, but separate the materials such as concrete and bricks. In any case, it is worthwhile to carefully compare the prices of the local recyclers.
tips
If a container is to be ordered, you must first obtain permission from the city. This is chargeable. There are also fees for the downtime, depending on the size of the container.
