If you want to integrate a stream into your garden, you should let it flow down a slight slope - and also invest in a sensible pump. So that the brook does not mutate into a trickle or even into a torrent, the pumping capacity and thus the required amount of water should be adapted to the circumstances.

Rule of thumb for the right pump
There is a simple rule of thumb for calculating the required amount of water and thus the pumping capacity for a stream:
The width of the creek x 1.5 equals the amount pumped per minute
A stream that is 40 centimeters wide therefore requires a pump that delivers 60 liters of water per minute. The water reservoir or the garden pond, on the other hand, should be able to hold about a third of this amount of water - calculated per hour. With around 3600 liters per hour, the pond should therefore have a capacity of at least 1200 liters.
tips
If your stream is unevenly wide, use the average value for the calculation.
