Choosing the right seed

The best place for sowing leeks

Summer leeks are sown under glass from January. Sow autumn leeks outdoors from July. A humus-rich, loose soil that should be deep is preferred.

Prepare bed

Leeks need a lot of nutrients. Prepare the bed by deep loosening. Mix in plenty of mature compost or manure. Keep the bed weed-free and water the bed just before sowing.

If the leeks are cared for properly, the first stalks will be ready to harvest as early as June. Autumn varieties are harvested from late September until the onset of frost.
