In order for a Ficus benjamina to develop magnificently in living and working rooms, the location has to be chosen carefully. In its tropical distribution areas, the birch fig thrives as a forest and clearing tree, which requires a special combination of temperature and light conditions. You can find out all the important criteria for the optimal location here.

The Ficus Benjamini must not be too sunny

The best site conditions in a nutshell

Since a birch fig loses its leaves if it moves repeatedly, please look out for a place with these general conditions:

  • Sunny to semi-shady location
  • In summer with temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius
  • In winter not below 18 degrees Celsius
  • Gladly with a humidity of more than 50 percent

Green-leaved Benjamini varieties also show their green side in light shade. In full sun, they suffer fatal sunburn. In contrast, hybrids with variegated leaves develop the decorative coloring of their leaves perfectly in a sunny location, as long as they are protected from the blazing summer sun at midday.

Summer freshness on the balcony is desirable

The birch fig is at its best when it can enjoy the unfiltered sunlight and fresh air on the balcony between May and September. Of course, only clear out your Benjamini when the night-time temperatures are no longer below 16 degrees. In order for the summer freshness to start smoothly, a Ficus benjamina should first acclimate for 8 to 10 days in the shady place.

tips

In order to survive the problematic winter time and the lack of light unscathed, we recommend a location in the light-flooded bedroom. At temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius, the birch fig compensates for the lack of light between December and February. At the same time, the numerous leaves of your Benjamini filter pollutants from the air you breathe.
