A brick privacy screen is considered to be very durable. However, even this small structure is subject to a certain aging due to the weather conditions. There is damage to the plaster, the joints or even cracks in the masonry. With a little manual skill and our instructions, you can repair the garden wall yourself professionally and inexpensively.

The individual work steps:
- Inspect the wall and eliminate defects.
- Fill masonry and cracks with filler.
- Apply primer.
- Freshly plastered.
- Beautify the wall with a coat of paint.
Since the materials used have to dry thoroughly from time to time, you should choose a few days when good weather is forecast for the work.
Identify damage and remove loose plaster
If the facade is crumbling or the material of the joints is loosening, you must first remove the damaged areas. Then clean the garden wall thoroughly with the high-pressure cleaner. (€119.90)
putty masonry
All uneven spots must now be evened out. Depending on the existing substrate, use lime-cement plaster or exterior adhesive plaster.
fill cracks
You can cover or fill surface cracks with materials available from hardware stores.
Apply primer
The facade of an older garden wall often offers insufficient adhesion for the new plaster. You should therefore paint the entire surface with deep primer.
Replaster
The plaster of a garden wall consists of at least two layers. First apply the base coat. This is followed by a smooth or textured finishing coat, depending on personal taste.
Paint the garden wall
Finally, paint the repaired garden wall with an exterior paint.
Damage to the natural stone wall
Wall plants and lichens should not be removed as they protect the masonry from rain, frost and temperature fluctuations. On the other hand, you should immediately pull out any trees that are germinating in the joints and cracks, as they can destroy the natural stone wall with their strong roots.
If individual stones are missing, you can reinsert them with suitable stones and lime mortar. Do not close the joints, which may be two to four centimeters deep, smoothly.
tips
To prevent rain and frost from causing damage, the garden wall should have a cover. This should have a slight slope so that water runs off well, and a drip edge that protrudes at least five centimeters over the masonry. Brick or concrete slabs, natural stones, sheet metal or roof tiles are suitable as covers.
