A brick privacy screen is considered to be very durable. But time also leaves its mark on this structure: cracks can appear, the joints become deeper and smaller pieces break off. Then at the latest it will be necessary to renovate the garden wall. It's easy with our tips.

- cover for the ground
- Awning or tarpaulin to protect the work area
- renovation spatula
- grout
- deep ground
- facade paint
- Hearing and respiratory protection
- angle grinder
- orbital sander
- high pressure cleaner
- Multitool with grinding attachment
- wire brush
- surface spatula
- hammer
- chisel
- trowel
- scraper grid
- paint roller
- paint brush
- bucket
Renovate the wall
As for the facelift, which should take place in dry weather, do the following:
- Remove plaster from the wall with an angle grinder and eccentric grinder.
- Brush out the joints well and scrape out the mortar that has become rotten.
- Thoroughly clean the garden wall, for example with a high-pressure cleaner (€119.90).
- Fill with quick-acting cement marked for outdoor use and repair joints with joint mortar.
- Paint the entire surface twice with a special primer.
- Finally, at least three coats of exterior paint are applied.
Plan enough time for the individual work steps, because after cleaning and painting you have to wait 12 to 24 hours before you can continue working.
Replaster the garden wall
Again, keep an eye on the weather forecast and get to work when a few dry days are announced:
- Use a screwdriver to check whether the old plaster is crumbling in many places. If this crumbles when you run the tool over the surface, everything has to come off.
- Then apply primer.
- Now bring in the reinforcement mats: mix some plaster and apply it to the edges. Press the reinforcement edges together with the reinforcement mats into the damp material and spread excess plaster into the mats.
- Plaster the entire garden wall.
- In those areas where there is still no reinforcement fabric, press the special fabric into the damp plaster and work it in with a smoothing trowel.
- Allow the base plaster to harden thoroughly.
- If desired, you can then apply decorative plaster.
tips
If you want to replaster the garden wall, you have to match the material to the stone or concrete underneath, just like with the primer.
