Have you also fallen in love with the beautiful pink loosestrife flower? You will often find the ornamental plant at lakes, ponds or in meadows. But even if you only have a balcony, you don't have to do without the plant. We explain what you need to look out for when keeping buckets.

Site selection tips
The purple loosestrife does not only grow into a graceful ornamental plant in the garden bed. You can also cultivate it in a bucket. However, the plant is less suitable for the apartment, unless you can offer it a sun-drenched room. The purple loosestrife loves sunny locations. In the shade it grows slowly and develops its flowering only modestly. A bright, warm south-facing terrace is therefore also best suited for the tub.
The right bucket size
With sufficient light and the right care, purple loosestrife can grow up to 2 m in height. Accordingly, it develops an extensive root ball. So choose a big bucket. You may even have to repot the plant.
Demands on the substrate
Purple loosestrife feels most comfortable near water. It requires a permanently moist to wet substrate. Wet soil is very important, especially when keeping in buckets, since the plant has no way of getting water from the groundwater. As a rule, conventional garden soil is completely sufficient as a substrate. Mix in a little sand and make sure it has a humus consistency.
Also keep in mind that loosestrife prefers to stand in the blazing sun. Accordingly, the substrate dries out quickly. To save yourself a little work when watering, it is best to mix some compost into the soil or apply a layer of mulch. These components store water and keep the substrate moist longer.
tips
In contrast to many other ornamental plants, the loosestrife copes excellently with waterlogging. By placing the bucket on a lower tray filled with water, it is always sufficiently supplied. This saves you the constant watering.
