Trying to rank chaste tree varieties by beauty would not be fair. The only question is which color of her flowers we prefer. A large garden can be colorful and accommodate several varieties at the same time. Otherwise you have to make a heavy-hearted decision between white, pink, violet, red and blue.

There are also white and pink varieties of chaste tree

Alba

Blue flowers are typical for wild-growing chasteberry varieties. These colors are also predominantly cultivated in the garden. If you want to deviate from that and are looking for an innocent white, you are on the right track with Alba. This flower color makes the shrub appear elegant and can also be combined well with neighboring plants of a different colour, e.g. B. with purple lavender.

  • maximum growth height is 3 m
  • possible width is 1.5 m
  • suitable for garden beds and tubs
  • Flowering time extends from August to October

Blue Diddley

The Blue Diddley variety naturally flowers blue, otherwise it would not have had this name. At first glance, the approx. 20 cm long panicles are reminiscent of the butterfly bush, which is better known among gardeners. Blue Diddley is a new variety that grows very compact.

  • very densely branched
  • a smaller variety with 1.2 height and the same width
  • a beautiful solitaire for the terrace
  • blooms in August and September

tips

If you cultivate the chaste tree in a tub, it requires more care from you than an outdoor specimen. In winter, the per se hardy shrub must be kept frost-free indoors because it is more sensitive in a pot.

Latifolia

In a sunny location, the monk's pepper latifolia will transform your garden into a sea of blue-violet flowers in the truest sense of the word. Because this shrub takes on enormous proportions over the years.

  • grows up to 5 m high and 2 m wide
  • blooms in July and August
  • upright blue-violet flower panicles

Whitespire

White Spire is a white-flowering variety that blooms well into fall. Compared to the Alba variety, the shrub does not grow as large and is therefore a better alternative for growing in a small garden.

  • grows upright bushy
  • grows about 1.5 m tall and wide
  • Flowering period from late July to October
