The decision to plant a Kolkwitze is certainly the right one. But in the second step, it's all about the little details. So you can choose between several varieties of this plant. We introduce you to three.

Kolkwitzie "Pink Cloud"
If a pink cloud appears in the garden from May, normal rain is not to be expected. We can look forward to the fragrant flowers of the Kolkwitzia "Pink Cloud" much more. This Kolkwitzie attracts bees magnetically. Another plus for nature lovers! The hardy shrub has the following characteristics:
- initially upright growing, later overhanging
- Growth height is 2 to 3 m
- Growth width 1.5 to 2.5 m
- Growth rate is 10 to 30 cm per year
If you have your garden in the city, you will not have any problems with this Kolwitzia, because it tolerates the city climate well. Experience also shows that it also develops well in partial shade.
Kolkwitzie "Rosea"
The "Rosea" variety is popular, probably because it is so lavishly hung with flowers. These are all colored pink. The color shine of the flowers is also reminiscent of mother-of-pearl, which is why the second name of the Kolkwitzia mother-of-pearl shrub is. This hardy strain takes up a lot of space and is more suited to larger gardens.
- max. height is between 2 and 3 m
- max. width is 2 to 2.5 m
- gains about 30 cm annually
- initially upright, later overhanging branches
- medium green foliage color
If the "Rosea" gets a restrained pruning after flowering, the amount of flowers will be increased in the following year.
tips
In the clippings of all Kolkwitzen varieties you will be able to discover some useful cuttings. With their help, you can easily multiply Kolkwitzia.
Kolkwitzie "Maradco"
The "Maradco" variety has white or pink flowers with a yellow throat. In addition, their foliage is extremely attractive. The leaves are golden yellow-greenish in color and have bright accents.
This Kolkwitzia can reach a maximum height of 1 to 2 m and is therefore smaller than the previously presented varieties. It is therefore often chosen for container planting. "Maradco" is also suitable as a solitary plant or for group planting, for example as a Kolkwitzia hedge.
In terms of location and care, this mother-of-pearl shrub does not differ from other Kolkwitzias. That means: sunny vegetation time, fertilizer only when there is an absolute shortage of nutrients and leaving the watering to the rain outdoors.
Notice:
If the bark of the older branches of "Maradco" peels off, you do not have to worry about illness. This is a normal process for this plant.
