The flower trade has picked up on this trend and is offering waxed flower bulbs. However, at a steep price. However, since growing flower bulbs is not a difficult task, anyone can make their own at home. The good thing is that you can implement your own ideas here.

Suitable flower bulbs

Thick flower bulbs have stored plenty of nutrients and water. They are therefore ideal for waxing. The largest bulbs among the spring bloomers are the hyacinths and amaryllis plants. But smaller specimens can also be dipped in wax.

Because the Amaryllis grows tall and forms a large, heavy flower, it can easily tip over and break off on its own. Place the waxed bulb in a tall glass jar or somewhere that will hold onto something.

Suitable wax

The bulb does not care what kind of wax it is coated with.

  • the focus can only be on the decorative value
  • e.g. For example, delicate pastel shades harmonize wonderfully with hyacinths
  • an inexpensive candle may be used
  • or a candle that is currently available

Since the wax has to be melted, even old leftover candles can be used. Different candles can also be mixed together as long as you like the new tone. Only the wicks have to be removed beforehand.

  1. Remove the flower bulb from the pot and remove any soil residue.
  2. Soak the bulb in water overnight. It should be completely covered, but not its green - if it has already sprouted some.
  3. Take the bulb out of the water and let it dry.
  4. Melt the wax in a water bath. Clean glasses with a wide opening are ideal for this.
  5. Remove the jar from the water bath once the wax has liquefied. It must not get too hot so that the onion is not damaged.
  6. Dip the whole bulb (without the green part) into the wax. Only the spot where it will sprout must remain free.
  7. Let the layer of wax dry and repeat the process until you are satisfied with the result.

Notice:
After growth, you can neither water nor fertilize the flower bulb. This is not necessary either. You can immediately move on to admiring.
