Gardening is easier when sitting or standing, because a stooped posture and kneeling when working the soil beds put a lot of strain on the back and joints. For this reason, a raised bed is just as practical as it is back-friendly - all the better if you can optimally combine its advantages with those of a greenhouse.

Raised beds in the greenhouse
If you are considering whether you would rather put a raised bed (or several) or a greenhouse in your garden, let me tell you: You can also simply put the raised beds in the greenhouse and thus cleverly combine the advantages of both types of cultivation. A raised bed in the greenhouse also ensures that you don't have to get on your knees and work on the soil in the greenhouse when the temperature is like that at the equator. Other advantages are:
- thanks to classic compost raised beds, regular fertilizing is no longer necessary
- Heat-loving fruit vegetables find optimal growth conditions in covered raised beds
- Tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, courgettes and pumpkins need a lot of nutrients and a warm and sheltered location
- If the raised beds are in the greenhouse, you can garden all year round - even in winter
The raised beds are very easy to integrate into the greenhouse: Instead of creating soil beds to the left and right of the central aisle, simply install raised beds that are built to match. The necessary boxes made of wood are particularly easy to build, although you have to protect the material carefully due to the high humidity inside the greenhouse - otherwise it will rot within a few years.
Raised bed with greenhouse attachment
However, "real" greenhouses (77.12€) are quite expensive and complex to build. On the other hand, it is easier to place a suitable greenhouse attachment on an existing raised bed box or one that is to be built. This meets all the criteria of a "large" greenhouse - and can even be removed if necessary.
Properly constructing a raised bed greenhouse
When constructing a raised bed you have built yourself or choosing one you have bought, you should already consider which accessories you need for the bed box. So it makes sense to find out beforehand about the usual dimensions of covers, attachments, fleece and foils, so that the dimensions of the raised bed, greenhouse attachment and accessories ultimately fit together. Custom-made products are always more work and are significantly more expensive than parts with standard dimensions.
tips
For an early cultivation or for gardening in cool locations, a suitable attachment made of glass or acrylic, which turns the raised bed into a cold frame, is worthwhile.
