Have you ever strolled through a garden center and thought when you saw the decorative items: "You could actually build that yourself." Then you're probably like many eager do-it-yourselfers who have lots of ideas but don't quite know where to start with the implementation. Therefore, on this page you will find detailed step-by-step instructions for self-made decorative balls for outdoor use.

Boxwood balls are best cut with a template

Different materials

In most cases, instructions specify a specific raw material with which you can implement one of hundreds of ideas. In this case it is exactly the opposite. The shape is already set with a sphere. However, you are free to choose the material:

  • wood
  • willow rods
  • metal
  • stone
  • concrete

Different ideas

stones behind wire

You need:

  • galvanized steel wire
  • a pair of steel tongs
  • a needle nose pliers
  • black spray paint
  • medium-sized white stones

That's how it's done:

  1. Bend the wire into four equal circles…
  2. Tie these together with wire as well.
  3. Now unfold the wires to form a ball.
  4. Spray paint the wire black.
  5. Fill the balls with stones and find a suitable spot in the garden.

willow balls

You need:

  • flexible willow rods
  • wire

That's how it's done:

  1. If necessary, soak the rods in water.
  2. Then bend them into circles.
  3. Wire two circles orthogonally to each other until you get a closed ball.

Driftwood ball

You need:

  • small driftwood (alternatively somewhat thicker sticks)
  • a balloon
  • adhesive

That's how it's done:

  1. Inflate the balloon.
  2. Dip the driftwood in the glue and glue it onto the balloon.
  3. It is important that the wood touches each other.
  4. Let the glue dry overnight.
  5. Prick the balloon with a needle.
  6. Remove the remains of the balloon.
