Why do cats like to dig in the ground?

The wild cat buries its legacies in loose soil. This is exactly how outdoor cats behave, roaming through gardens all day and only coming home in the evening. It is natural for these animals to use loose soil as a toilet. Basically there is nothing wrong with that. However, when the dear kittens crouch in the flower pots every day and throw out the whole earth when burying them, the matter becomes annoying.

Ways to stop cats from digging

There are several ways to do this. However, you may have to try several variants, since the velvet paws are clever little animals that see through many a defense trick and come up with something new to get to the goal.

  • Cover potting soil with foil, a tedious task that has to be repeated every night. If the foil is not attached properly, the cat will scratch it off the pot.
