In autumn, ladybugs that are otherwise popular can become a nuisance when they are looking for places to overwinter in large flocks. Sometimes they can also get into residential buildings in large numbers. Double windows in particular are a welcome shelter for some groups of beetles.

Ladybugs are welcome in the garden, but not at the window in winter

How to get rid of ladybugs on the window

If a swarm of ladybugs wants to hibernate in the space between the panes of your frame double window, they will fly into the living room every time you open the window, which is annoying. Apart from the mutual disturbance, such a hibernation place for the beetles is actually suboptimal because it is too warm. It can prevent their important, energy-saving hibernation, which physically occurs automatically.

What you can do to get the bugs out is this:

  • Use the vacuum cleaner carefully
  • Spread camphor-menthol-water mixture

With the vacuum cleaner method, pull a sock into the suction tube as a gentle catch bag and suck the animals at the lowest level at a small point in the opening gap of the double window, which is otherwise closed with fabric, for example. Then you can release them far away.

Spraying the affected area with a mixture of water, camphor, and menthol can repel the bugs without causing them much harm. They find the pungent odor of these substances unpleasant.
