No matter how easy it is to care for the elephant's foot, if it begins to develop yellow leaves, you should take a closer look at the plant. Depending on which leaves are affected and how big the extent is, different causes come into question.

Yellow leaves at the bottom are no reason to panic

If the lower leaves are mostly affected and only a relatively small number, then you shouldn't worry too much. From time to time even an evergreen plant needs to renew itself.

However, yellow or brown leaves are not “normal” at the top of the plant. Over-fertilization could be the reason for this. Overwintering too warm or a lack of light are also possible causes.

The essentials in brief:

  • yellow or brown leaves are minor and normal at the bottom
  • excessive loss requires treatment
  • possible causes: over-fertilization, lack of light, warm hibernation

tips

Don't worry about a few yellow leaves.
