When the first flakes fall gently in winter, it is a lot of fun to make Advent decorations together with the family. You can find the materials for our DIY idea in your own garden or on a long walk in the woods. Our wreath also does not need any greenery and can therefore still be used next year.

An Advent wreath made of pine cones is of course beautiful

What are pineapples?

Pineapples are not fruit, but the cones of pine trees. These trees are called pine trees or pine pines in some regions because of their very sticky resin. Their wood used to be chopped into pine shavings, which were used to kindle firewood.

Material list for a pineapple wreath

  • Willow wreath as a framework
  • at least 60 pineapples
  • ribbon
  • hot glue gun
  • Paint spray cans in different tones. For example, the combination of gold and classic red or white, green and red looks very festive.
  • gloves
  • covering material for the ground

If you want to equip the wreath with lights, you need four holders and candles that match the color of the pine cones.

craft instructions

  • Thoroughly clean the cones. If necessary, let it dry a bit.
  • Protect an outdoor work area with masking material.
  • Remove the safety cap from the spray cans and shake them well.
  • Put on gloves.
  • Lay out the cones on the base and spray them all at once. This gives a beautiful vintage look.
  • Alternatively, you can apply the color to cover it by spraying each pine cone individually from all sides.
  • Let the paint dry thoroughly.
  • If desired, divide the wreath into four parts with a ribbon and tie a decorative bow.
  • Attach the pegs with the hot glue gun. Don't skimp on glue, so the pine cones will hold securely.
  • Let everything dry well.

tips

Preferably use LED real wax candles without an open flame. Since the pine cones catch fire easily, if you opt for traditional lights, you should never leave this Advent wreath burning unattended.
