Don't feel like mosquito bites? It's a good thing that hot summer days not only increase the number of insects, but also promote growth in your herb garden. You don't even have to harvest the tasty spices and apply them to your skin to drive mosquitoes out of your garden. The spicy smell alone puts the stinging insects to flight. The following varieties are particularly recommended.

Herbs against mosquitoes
Many herbs contain highly fragrant essential oils that both whet your appetite and repel mosquitoes. If you want to avoid mosquitoes in the garden, you should primarily rely on these varieties:
- basil
- catnip
- lemon balm
- garlic
basil
Someone would say again that there is no cure for mosquitoes! The basil is probably the best evidence to the contrary. You don't necessarily have to plant the herb in the bed. Basil can also be cultivated in a pot. This is particularly useful at a barbecue on the terrace, because each guest can pluck a few leaves to refine their salad.
catnip
Both gardeners and cats are happy - just not the mosquitoes. Unlike insects, cats love the smell and taste of catnip. The gardener, on the other hand, will enjoy the beautiful lilac-colored flowers that are reminiscent of lavender.
lemon balm
With the lemony scent of the herb, a breeze from the warm south blows onto the terrace. Lemon balm not only has an excellent taste, but uninvited guests do not like it at all.
garlic
Whether protection against vampires is necessary is questionable. Against other bloodsuckers such as mosquitoes, however, it is absolutely necessary in summer. Here, too, the garlic with its smell can help.
