As a heavy feeder, zucchini not only needs water but also sufficient nutrients to grow. These can be added by adding compost, organic or mineral fertilizers. From an ecological point of view, it makes sense to prefer organic fertilizers to mineral substances.

Naturally fertilize with compost
The nutrient supply of the zucchini begins with the preparation of the garden bed. Compost contains all the required nutrients and thus the soil is already sufficiently enriched with nutrients by mixing in compost. Planting the zucchini right next to the compost is beneficial. The nutrients are then practically flushed from the compost heap straight into the zucchini bed.
Organic Fertilizers
In order to ensure a sufficient supply of nitrogen, the soil can also be enriched with horn shavings (32.93€) or horn meal. This is done either before planting or during the growing season.
mineral fertilizers
Anyone who relies on mineral fertilizers from the garden market can use the following products:
- special zucchini fertilizer, e.g. from Substral
- alternatively tomato fertilizer, since the same nutrients are included, from Neudorff
- always fertilize the soil and not the plant parts
tips and tricks
Even those who have not created their own compost in the garden do not have to do without the valuable fertilizer. Composting plants offer the compost for self-collection by the sack and for a small fee.
