Unlike overwintering larger plants and growing fruit, growing an avocado is a breeze. Especially with regard to the composition of the soil, the avocado is very frugal and thrives almost anywhere.

Avocado loves sandy, loose soil

Most avocado growers find that their sapling thrives in conventional potting soil. Soil for palm trees or citrus plants also shows good results. However, the avocado loves loose soil that is not too salty. For domestic use, a 1:1 mixture of sand and potting soil is perfect, especially for seedlings and young plants. Older plants, on the other hand, tend to benefit from heavier, loamy soils.

tips and tricks

Instead of first germinating the seed in a water bath, you can also put it in a small pot with loose, sandy soil. Cover this pot with foil and place in a warm but not sunny spot.
