Fresh lychees are mainly available in German supermarkets between November and March. These lychees mostly come from South Africa or Madagascar, where the seasons are the opposite of those in Europe - if it's winter here, the exotic fruit is harvested in the South African summer. The darker the skin, the more aromatic the fruit is.

Lychees from Israel are available in Germany in July and August. These fruits are particularly good for growing a lychee tree, as the mid-summer climate is the best time for the seedlings to germinate.
