The first peaches are usually available in the supermarket from the beginning of May. These - mostly unripe harvested and post-ripened fruits - come from North Africa. The main season for fresh fruit, on the other hand, is the summer months of July and August.

Harvest peaches until September
From July to September you can harvest fresh, juicy peaches from your own garden. A distinction is made between early, medium and late ripening varieties, with most varieties being ready for consumption from around mid-August to early September. One of the earliest peaches is the old American variety Amsden, which tastes best fresh from the tree from the end of July. On the other hand, the red Ellerstädter (also known as the Vorgebirgspfirsich or Kernechter vom Vorgebirge) is harvested very late, from around mid-September. The vineyard peaches are also only ripe in September - depending on the weather not until the beginning of October.
tips and tricks
If possible, only buy peaches when they are in season. Outside of the peach season, the supermarket fruit usually comes from overseas and is picked unripe due to the long journey. These fruits never reach the delicious aroma of real tree-ripened peaches.
