Wild blueberries often cover the forest floor in semi-shady clearings in dense stands. In contrast, the high-growing cultivated blueberries from North America require a little more space per plant in order to thrive.
The planting of blueberries
When purchasing blueberry plants, make sure that they are plants that need acidic peat soil as a substrate. These can also be cultivated well in a pot. When planting outdoors, the soil in the planting hole must be partially replaced with peat, unless it is a blueberry variety that can also cope with calcareous soil.
Plant blueberries in rows
When planting a blueberry garden in rows, there should be a distance of about 2.5 meters between the rows when planting. This way, there will still be enough space to walk between the mature bushes. The individual plants should be about 1.5 meters apart in the row in order to be able to develop well in shape.

Since blueberries tend to spread their roots flat, the planting hole must be dug more wide than deep.
