Currants are named in honor of St. John's Day, June 24th. At this time, depending on the weather, the first berries are ready to be harvested. Depending on the variety, the main harvest time does not begin until July.

Harvest time of currants
- Beginning of the harvest season at the end of June
- Blackcurrant season from mid-July
- End of harvest for all varieties at the end of August
White and red currants usually ripen a few days earlier than black currants.
At the end of June you can pick the first berries. New currants keep growing until August.
Harvest currants several times a week
Currants ripen very irregularly. They therefore have to harvest fresh berries several times a week.
tips and tricks
Do not let ripe currants hang on the bush for too long. Overripe berries lose a lot of flavor. If too many fruits are ripe at once, freeze them. Currants cannot be stored for long.
