Unlike baobab seedlings, cuttings offer a time-saving alternative. Within a few weeks, even beginners in gardening can grow small trees.

Remove cuttings from the mother plant

Spring is the best time to repot. On this occasion, you can easily win offshoots.

Possible options:

  • cuttings
  • leaves
  • offshoot

Cuttings: root formation

These are carefully removed from the large plant. At least three leaves are recommended per cutting. They then pause in a small vase of water. Choose a dark vessel. Alternatively, wrap the vase in aluminum paper to block the light.

The first small roots form within a few days. After about 2 weeks, the root system has sufficient strength to pull into the prepared soil.

Notice:

  • Always monitor the water level in the vase
  • Roots should never be dry in the beginning
  • Humus is suitable for planting the small offshoots.

Offshoots of leaves

For this method, select a gorgeous leaf. Carefully break this off near the tree trunk or branch.

The leaves are then placed about 2 millimeters deep in air-permeable soil. A sufficient supply of nutrients is necessary for root formation. The addition of mulch (€239.00) can support this. Experts recommend the moderate use of special fertilizers for cacti in individual cases.

Plant offshoots

Small branches with at least three leaves are used for this purpose. After cutting, they rest for about two days at room temperature. When the interface has dried, plant the offshoots in rich and moist soil.

rooting powder

Lush root formation is considered the cradle of magnificent growth. A special rooting powder is often used.

tips and tricks

Older baobab trees hardly need any water. However, the soil of offshoots must always be kept moist. In this way, the roots form faster and stronger.
