The terms passion fruit and maracuja are often used as synonyms in this country. Both terms refer to the fruit of the passion flower, with passion fruit having a yellow skin in contrast to the darker passion fruit.

Ripe passion fruit should feel as heavy as an egg. If they feel very light, they are usually too dry on the inside and no longer fresh.
