The cultivation of grapevines is by no means limited to the classic wine-growing regions. Vines thrive wherever there is a sheltered, sunny location. You can find out when the best planting time is here.

Grape vines in containers offer more flexibility
If you don't want to stick to a fixed schedule, you can plant young vines in containers. In this case, the plants can go into the ground all year round as long as it is not frozen. However, if you want to get the most out of your vines or prefer bare-root seedlings, the following specifications apply to the planting time:
- The ideal planting time is from early April to mid-May
- the ground is no longer frozen and has already warmed up
- alternatively, early autumn is considered a suitable time with its sun-warmed soil
- Vines are generally planted on the balcony in spring
However, planting shortly before winter carries the risk that the young vines will frostbite. In this case, winter protection in the form of warm fleece is advisable.
