The strikingly shaped leaves of the kaffir lime are indispensable, especially in Thai cuisine. They are mainly added to soups and curries, either whole or cut into hair-thin strips. Since the spice is very difficult to obtain in this country, lovers of Thai cuisine should keep such a tree themselves.

Overwinter the kaffir lime

The Kaffir lime is one of the more complicated citrus species, it always needs a little more light, warmth and care than its sisters or cousins. You should definitely overwinter the plant in a cool but bright place. The kaffir lime prefers temperatures of around 10 to 12 °C. The basic principle is - as with all other citrus species - the warmer the winter quarters, the more light the plant needs. However, since the incidence of light in German winters is far from sufficient, you should definitely install an additional plant lamp (€21.99) if you spend the winter warm (i.e. at room temperature).

tips and tricks

The watering frequency also depends on the temperature in the winter quarters: the warmer it is, the more water your kaffir lime needs.
