The flowering time of lavender depends primarily on the variety. There are early-blooming and late-blooming lavender varieties, of which the French lavender is the earliest - the species, also known as butterfly lavender, opens its flowers as early as May.

The most beautiful travel destinations for the lavender blossom
Early summer is the right season for lavender blooms. In particular, the fields of southern French Provence are a single purple to blue sea from around May / June. The beginning of the merry month of May is the early blooming French lavender, which also blooms the longest of all varieties. From the beginning of June, the blooming season of real lavender, which is mainly found in the mountainous regions, begins. Shortly thereafter, the tall-growing spike lavender begins to open its flowers. Lastly, the lavandin, typical of Provence, blooms in a lush blue-purple hue from mid-June. Incidentally, although Provence is the best-known cultivation area for lavender, there are also extensive fields in other Mediterranean countries. Tuscany and Greece in Italy are always worth a trip to see the lavender blossom. There are also other growing areas in Spain (including Mallorca), Croatia (especially on the island of Hvar) and Hungary (Tihany Peninsula).
Lavender blossom in Germany
In Germany, lavender blooms much later than in the Mediterranean - it's usually just not warm enough here in early summer. Most lavender varieties do not flower here until mid to late June, sometimes even as late as July. Furthermore, the local lavender blossom is not only dependent on the weather (i.e. duration of sunshine, drought), but also on factors such as soil conditions and care. Lavender only blooms so lush and intoxicatingly fragrant when all the conditions are right - the plant is quite sensitive and therefore likes to be treated with the utmost care.
tips and tricks
Prune your lavender vigorously towards the end of July / beginning of August at the latest, then it will often bloom a second time.
