The French lavender is a plant that needs sun and warmth, which should be kept cool in winter, but frost-free. As a rule, the shrub tolerates temperatures around freezing point for a short time - provided it is protected accordingly.

Wrap pot with protective mats
If the temperatures don't drop permanently below freezing, you can also plant a pot of French lavender in a sheltered - i. H. not draughty and not windy - leave a corner in the garden or on the balcony. The plant likes a spot on a warm house wall, which is oriented to the south as much as possible. Lavender needs a lot of sun, even in winter. As long as the pot is outside, you should cover the substrate with brushwood and wrap the container with protective mats, for example made of coconut. This way you protect the roots from freezing. As soon as it gets colder, however, the French lavender belongs in a cool and bright place inside the house or in a greenhouse.
