Marjoram is usually not used fresh, but cooked with the food. Like all herbs, which are also very aromatic when heated, marjoram should be dried rather than frozen. If the harvest is too large, you can of course also preserve the herb in the freezer.

Prepare marjoram for freezing
It is best to harvest the marjoram stalks in the morning. You should avoid washing and chopping as much as possible. A lot of flavor is lost as a result.
This is how the herb is frozen
What you need for freezing:
- baking sheet or board
- freeze bag
- Fresh marjoram
Lay the whole stalks side by side on the sheet or board.
Set the freezer as cold as possible and leave the tray or board in it until the herbs are frozen through.
Then place the stalks in a freezer bag and keep them in the freezer until ready to use.
Make herb cubes
You have a little more work if you want to make herbal cubes from marjoram. This method is particularly recommended if you had to wash the marjoram beforehand.
Cut the stalks into small pieces, place in an ice cube tray and pour in enough water to completely cover the herbs. Wrap the ice cube tray in a freezer bag and freeze the herbs.
You can then remove the herb cubes from the ice cube tray and store them in the freezer bag in the freezer for up to six months.
Make herbal blends
Unlike in the garden, marjoram also goes well with thyme and other herbs in the freezer. Simply put together your own herbal mixture from various herbs.
You can add the frozen herbs to the food while they are still frozen, giving your dishes a very individual touch.
Drying is preferable
If you have the opportunity to dry marjoram, you should give preference to this method of preservation. The aroma is retained better and the herb is easier to portion.
tips and tricks
Marjoram is one of the most aromatic herbs to grow in your own garden. Its taste easily overpowers all other spices. Therefore, use marjoram sparingly in the kitchen and sow only a few herbs in the garden.
