As undemanding as cress is in terms of soil and location, it is all the more problematic to water it properly. Too little water is just as harmful as too much moisture.

The biggest mistakes when watering cress:

  • waterlogging
  • Water jet too strong
  • Too dry substrate
  • stagnant water

Make sure the cress is nice and moist but not too wet. If you have watered too generously, drain off the excess water.

Use a spray bottle to water. Wash out the seeds with a hard jet of water from a watering can or from a garden hose outdoors. If the watering pressure is too high, the cress plants will lie down on the ground.

tips and tricks

If you want to be absolutely sure that the cress in the cress bed does not get moldy, rinse the cress with fresh water once or several times a day. This keeps it well moist without waterlogging developing.
