It grows quickly and promises a rich harvest. In its dried form, comfrey is almost as potent as when freshly harvested. But what is it good for when it is dry?

Dried comfrey for the preparation of liquid manure

Making manure using dried or fresh comfrey leaves is common among gardeners. This manure serves as a fertilizer and strengthens the garden plants enormously. That's how it's done:

  • pour water over dried and chopped leaves, e.g. B. in a bucket
  • leave outside
  • stir daily
  • Slurry is ready when it no longer foams and there is a fermented smell

Dried comfrey for wound healing

Comfrey has long been known to have anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, analgesic, blood circulation and wound healing properties. If you have poorly healing wounds, sprains, bruises or other problems with the musculoskeletal system, use the power of comfrey.

Make an ointment from comfrey

Ideally, the ointment should be made from the dried root pieces. Shea butter, for example, can serve as a fatty basis for the ointment. The dried root pieces are ground into powder. The fine powder is added to the fatty base and the whole thing is stirred (if necessary, heat briefly beforehand). Now the ointment is ready to use.

Apply compresses with comfrey

You can also make envelopes with dried comfrey leaves. Take the dry comfrey leaves and mix them with a little water in a food processor to a pulp. Put this porridge on a cotton cloth.

Alternatively, you can pour hot water on the dried leaves or root pieces and soak the cotton cloths with this infusion. The envelope should be allowed to act for 1 to 2 hours in the respective place.

Dried comfrey root for dental care

It may sound far-fetched, but comfrey has been shown to help remineralize teeth when used as a mouthwash. For this purpose, hot water is poured over the dried root or root pieces. The whole thing is left to infuse for 10 minutes. Then let it cool down and use it daily as a mouthwash.

tips and tricks

The root contains most of the active ingredients. Therefore, you should - if possible - prefer to use them. When using comfrey, keep in mind that it should not be used internally as it contains toxins.
