The kiwi plants belong to the ray-pen family and come from China. The warmth-loving, twining shrub has dioecious, whitish-yellow flowers. Proper spacing between male and female plants is therefore important for pollination.

In order for the exotic kiwi bush to thrive in the home garden, the correct planting distance must be observed in addition to the slightly acidic, humus-rich soil and the protected, warm location with suitable climbing aids. In order to harvest fruit, at least one female and one male plant are required, which are not planted too far apart:

  • Maintain a minimum distance of one meter
  • do not exceed planting distance of four meters,
  • a male plant can fertilize up to seven female plants,
  • monoecious kiwi varieties can also stand alone.

tips and tricks

Only female plants bear fruit. Even with good pollination conditions, the first flowers and fruits can usually only be expected after the 3rd year of growth.
