The creation or cultivation of meadow orchards can be financially supported in many federal states. Which pots can actually be tapped varies greatly from state to state - it is best to ask your local nature conservation authority or the responsible environmental agency directly.

Funding in Bavaria

If you want to create a meadow orchard, you can have this project funded by various bodies. In accordance with the Bavarian landscape conservation and nature park guidelines, the lower nature conservation authority assumes up to 70 percent of the costs for material and trees. The nature conservation authority is attached to your responsible district office. The Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, on the other hand, even covers up to 100 percent of the costs for trees and seeds as part of the "More green through rural development" campaign. Furthermore, already existing meadow orchards can be promoted, for example through the Bavarian Contractual Nature Conservation Program (VNP) or the Cultural Landscape Program (KULAP). Both measures pay up to eight euros per tree.

Funding in Baden-Württemberg

With around 100,000 hectares, Baden-Württemberg has the most orchards in Germany. Of course, the federal state would like to preserve this diversity and is therefore primarily promoting existing plantings as part of a tree pruning premium with up to 15 euros per tree. Municipalities, associations or initiatives can apply for funding.

Funding in Lower Saxony

Anyone living in Lower Saxony can apply for funding for the new planting or the management of existing meadow orchards to the following offices:

  • Lower Saxony bingo environmental foundation
  • Promotion of rural areas and nature and environmental protection by the state of Lower Saxony itself
  • German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU) (as part of the nature conservation funding priority)
  • Cultural Land Conservation Foundation
  • as well as with some regional foundations or community foundations that are active in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation.

tips and tricks

In addition, many other federal states, including Brandenburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia, offer individual support programs for the creation of new orchards or the management of existing meadow orchards. You can often simply ask the local NABU office.
