ants
Ant infestation can be recognized by the nests, which are noticeable as small mounds of sand in the lawn. Dig up the nests with a spade and move them to a place where they won't disturb.
moles
Molehills on the lawn are very annoying, especially when they cover the whole area. Moles are protected. So you must not remove them under any circumstances. Therefore, try to drive away the noise and odor-sensitive earth graves. Have a kids party on the lawn with lots of feet walking on it. Some gardeners swear by sour milk poured down the mole's burrows.
garden beetle
They are one of the biggest lawn pests. Their grubs eat the roots of the grass and can destroy entire lawns in the event of a severe infestation. At the latest when an unusually large number of birds are pecking for food on the lawn, you should become alert and look out for the whitish grubs, which are one to five centimeters long. Sometimes a deep treatment with the scarifier helps. However, you have to overseed parts of the lawn afterwards. A non-toxic solution is to apply nematodes.
Other grubs
Other grubs are not quite as common. In the case of a severe infestation, the only option is often to replant the lawn after the grubs have been thoroughly removed. Nematodes can also be used here.
Nematodes as non-toxic pest control
A non-toxic way to control grubs in lawns is with nematodes. These are certain threadworms that are spread on the infested soil and consume the grubs from the inside. It is important to only use those nematode species that attack the type of pest present in the lawn. Ask your gardening shop for advice.
tips and tricks
Prevention is hardly possible against most pests. Strengthen the grasses so that they are not too bothered by pest infestations. Regular fertilizer application, scarifying and correct watering ensure a robust lawn.
