The kaki tree can grow up to 10 meters high. Since it is often kept in tubs in this country because of its sensitivity to frost, it should be cut back regularly simply for better handling.

The kaki tree (bot. Diospyros kaki) is a deciduous, flowering shrub with lanceolate leaves and round, apple-like fruits that develop from the flowers even without pollination. The kaki tree comes from Asia and has been cultivated there for over 2000 years. It is robust, easy to care for and not susceptible to diseases and pests.
Since Diospyros kaki is not hardy, the tree often only survives in regions of Germany that do not belong to the wine-growing regions if it is wintered frost-free and dark after dropping the leaves.
Appropriate pruning measures
The persimmon tree is similar in growth to the native apple tree and can grow up to 10 meters high. When keeping them in buckets, it is therefore advisable to limit their growth. For this purpose, training pruning can be used in the first 2-3 years, in which the main and side shoots are shortened and guided in the desired direction. Depending on the variety, the persimmon tree can be used as a shape
- standard,
- half stem,
- shrub or
- on the trellis
being raised. If necessary, other pruning measures such as fruit wood pruning and rejuvenation pruning can also be carried out. In order to thin out the crowns of the older trees, the damaged, dry and disturbing branches are removed.
cutting time
The kaki plants tolerate both autumn and spring pruning well. At the end of winter or early spring, pruning is carried out before the leaves sprout. In the fall, the persimmon plants are pruned before being taken to their wintering site. Thinning out the crown and removing branches that hang too low is sufficient.
tips and tricks
All pruning measures to be carried out should preferably be carried out in frost-free weather.
