Even in this country, tropical plants can feel that they are in good hands and are happily in bloom. Canna is one of the specimens for which the climate in Germany is sufficient to be able to develop flowers.
Extend and accelerate the flowering period
Canna starts flowering in June. Then hermaphroditic flowers appear at the terminal end of the cane. If you remove the withered flowers, the flowering period can be extended until autumn.
If you want to admire the flowers in spring, you should plant the flower cane at home. This can happen from January. The tubers that have been pushed out are planted out from mid-May.

The flowers of Canna are multifaceted. They are characterized by the following features:
- monochromatic to bichromatic
- from yellow to red (rarely white)
- 1 to 5 stamens
- three petals
- three sepals
- a twisted corolla tube

The blossoms from the flower cane are less suitable for vase cutting. They don't last long and quickly look wasted.
