As a tropical plant, Canna is not frost hardy in this country. If you still want to see the flower cane blooming every year, you don't necessarily have to buy new plants. The tubers can be overwintered…

Dig up in fall and overwinter until spring
Before the first frost in autumn, the canna bulbs are dug up. If soil still sticks to them, gently brush the tubers clean. If they appear damp, you can lay them out to dry for a few days.
Here's how to proceed with the tubers:
- choose a frost-free place (5 to 10 °C).
- put in box or pot with sand or earth
- water lightly during the winter so that the tubers do not dry out
- advance from January/February
- Plant out from May
tips and tricks
Don't be too hasty when digging up. Do not dig up the bulbs until the leaves of the canna plant have turned brown. The tubers suck important nutrients from them beforehand.
