Anemones belong to the buttercup family. These plants contain a toxic substance that causes skin damage if it comes in contact with the skin. If the sap of the anemone is swallowed, there is a risk of health damage up to and including nerve paralysis.

Be careful when caring for anemones
The plant sap always escapes when the anemone is cut or torn out. It is therefore advisable to wear gloves when caring for anemones to avoid contact with the toxic proteanemonin.
Dried anemones no longer pose a risk of poisoning. Drying or heating converts the proteanemonin into the non-toxic anemonin.
If there are small children in the house, it is better not to plant anemones. Children like to pick the pretty flowers and come into contact with the poisonous substances of the plant.
