The roots of the daylily have been bought and are waiting to be planted. But not too hasty! The location should meet certain requirements.

The sunnier, the more willing to bloom

This plant is extremely undemanding in terms of location and soil. It can thrive in both a sunny and partially shaded position. A place sheltered from the wind is not absolutely necessary.

If you have planted your daylily in an inappropriate spot, you can easily transplant it later. This should best be done during their dormant period in winter or early spring.

The right floor

Ideally, the soil for the daylily should be loamy and slightly sandy. Other beneficial soil characteristics are:

  • loose texture
  • good drainage
  • moderately dry to fresh environment
  • moderate nutrient and humus content

tips and tricks

Dark daylily varieties should preferably be planted in partial shade to prevent the flowers from fading too quickly.
