What time is ideal for planting?

Primroses can be planted in winter as long as the ground is frost free. But it is better to plant them in the spring after flowering. The ideal period for planting is between the end of April and the end of May.

How is the sowing done?

Primroses like to multiply by self-sowing. Those who prefer to take their propagation into their own hands should sow the seeds between February and April. If you sow by the end of May at the latest, you can expect the first flowering in the following year. Primrose seeds are cold and light germs.

Let's go: The seeds are placed in coarse-grained seed soil. They must not be covered with soil. If the substrate is kept moist, the seeds will germinate after 2 to 3 weeks. Temperatures between 12 and 15 °C are optimal for the germination process. As soon as the first 4 leaves can be seen, the small plants can be pricked out.

Which location is suitable?

Primroses should be planted in a sunny to partially shaded location. It is also important not to expose them to the direct midday sun. The risk of them drying up in summer is too high there.

What should the soil be like at the site?

If you want to plant the primroses in a pot, normal potting soil is sufficient. In the open ground, the subsoil should have the following characteristics:

Hyacinths, crocuses, daffodils, galanthus, heuchera as well as ferns and ornamental grasses are suitable as plant neighbors for primroses.
