How are primroses overwintered?

If you have planted your primrose after the flowering period, you can protect the plant in winter as a precaution. From temperatures below -5 °C it becomes critical for the flower buds. Hibernation can be done outdoors or indoors in a cool place.

Proceed as follows for wintering outdoors:

  • Cut off the flower stalks of the primula in summer
  • Water the primrose one last time in the fall
  • Remove dead leaves before overwintering
  • At the end of September, cover with a layer of fallen leaves, brushwood, spruce branches
