Daisies do not only grow in meadows and lawns. They are also available as colorful varieties for beds and balconies. The filled Bellis, which you can buy in pots or as seeds, are very decorative.

The double Bellis perennis also belongs to the daisy species

The different varieties

Bellis perennis, as the daisy is called in Latin, comes in almost every shade between white and bright red, double and single. The blue flowering Australian daisy is botanically not a daisy at all, but it is very decorative. It is an annual and unfortunately not hardy.

The Habanera variety delights with particularly large, two-tone flowers. These flowers are double and reach a diameter of up to 6 cm. The red double flowers of the Pomponette variety are about half as large. The flowers of Rob Roy and Floro pleno are also red and filled. They work particularly well in combination with white varieties.

The most beautiful daisies:

  • Rob Roy, red flowers, double
  • Kito, cherry pink
  • Radar, white, large-flowered
  • Floro pleno, red, densely filled
  • Australian daisy, blue, botanically not a daisy
  • Habanera, very large flowers

The benefits of daisies

Daisies taste good and have healing properties. They are used, for example, as a spring cure, either as a single tea or in a tea blend. After a six-week treatment, a break of at least two weeks is recommended. This will prevent both habituation and any long-term effects.

With daisy tea you relieve colds or gastrointestinal problems, among other things. Poultices with tea, tincture or fresh juice clear impure skin, relieve rashes and help stubborn wounds to heal better. They are also used for rheumatic complaints, joint pain and blunt injuries.

The leaves of the daisy taste slightly nutty. Refine soups and salads with it. You can use the blossoms as an edible decoration or process them into blossom butter. Freeze the blossoms in ice cube trays and you will get very decorative ice cubes that you can use to shine at your next party. Daisy jelly or a herb vinegar with daisies make great gifts.

tips and tricks

If you want to use daisies for healing purposes or in the kitchen, then it is best to use the common daisy, not one of the very decorative varieties.
