Although the African violets are in a perfect location in the apartment, a lot can still go wrong. These Tanzanian plants will easily ail or fail to flower if watering goes wrong.

Water your African violet only when the top layer of soil is dry

The most common mistakes

The water you use to water your African violets should be room temperature. Water that is too cold will shock these plants and make them susceptible to disease. Ideally, it is 20 °C warm.

Tap water is not suitable for watering African violets. Lime-depleted to lime-free water such as rainwater, stagnant tap water or water that has been freed of lime by a water filter is better suited for caring for these plants.

Here are some more hints:

  • pour copiously
  • Avoid waterlogging
  • Keep soil slightly moist
  • Water only when the top layer of soil has dried
  • add liquid fertilizer to the irrigation water every 2 weeks
  • don't water the leaves

tips and tricks

In a room with high humidity like the bathroom, African violets need less watering.
