For a tree fern you should choose a semi-shady to shady place in the apartment. Tree ferns cannot cope well with direct sunlight, especially at midday. They also don't like drafts. A location in the heated living room is not very suitable. The air there is too dry, which harms the moisture-loving tree ferns. It makes them susceptible to pests, among others.

The right substrate

But not only a shady place is crucial when dealing with the tree fern. A suitable substrate should be found in the pot or tub. A mixture of potting soil, peat, sand and fine gravel is ideal. In general, the following features are important:

  • relaxed

  • slightly sour
  • low in lime

Watering and fertilizing - the crucial care components

Casting occupies a prominent position. The soil should be kept moderately moist. But don't water too much! Waterlogging should not prevail. In addition to regular watering, misting the trunk with a hand sprayer is recommended.

When it comes to fertilizing, less is more. The tree fern has a low nutrient requirement. Add the fertilizer to the irrigation water. It is enough to fertilize once a month between April and September with half the concentration of liquid fertilizer.

With the right care, pests stay away

If the watering and fertilizing are carried out correctly, the tree fern is robust. Illnesses occur with him in the rarest of cases. But pests occur when the air is too dry and the tree fern is weakened as a result. This is often the case in winter when the apartment is heated. Spider mites and various lice in particular are reluctant to stay away from the tree fern.
