Most gardeners associate large blue flowers with gentians. However, there are also gentian species that develop white and yellow inflorescences. The blue gentian, which feels particularly at home in the rock garden, is the preferred plant.

The huge flowers of the blue gentian
In contrast to the flowers of white and yellow gentian varieties, the flowers of the blue gentian appear huge. They are bell-like and up to two inches long. They are often longer than the whole perennial, which is only ten centimeters high.
Due to its size and the barely visible stems, the blue color is particularly intense.
The flowering period of the blue gentian usually begins in May, while other species develop flowers later.
tips and tricks
The reason for the comparatively huge flowers of the blue gentian lies in its native location in the mountains. Here the plants have to develop such showy flowers in order to be found and pollinated by the few insects.
