Male fern was once known to be helpful against tapeworms. Few know him today. It could be interesting for gardeners with pests on their favorites…

Snails don't like male ferns
Snails would rather take a detour than crawl over a spot where they have direct contact with male ferns. They don't like this plant at all. No wonder: it is considered poisonous for both humans and animals. Consumption can lead to nerve damage, among other things. Maybe the snails know that instinctively…
Use roots and fronds
You can use the roots or fronds of the male fern against snails. Both parts of the plant contain the deterrent substances. But it is much less time-consuming to simply cut off the fronds instead of digging up the roots.
Craft and use a Male Fern Manure
A male fern manure shows a good effect against snails. How to make these:
- choose a large container e.g. B. Plastic bucket, plastic tub (non-metal)
- add water
- add fresh, chopped or dried and grated male fern
- if necessary, add some rock flour (14.13€) to counteract the later smell
- mix well
- cover with a cloth or mesh (air can escape, but bugs cannot get in)
- stir once a day
When mixing the manure, remember that 1 kg of fresh male fern or 150 g of dried male fern should be used for 10 liters of water. After an average of 2 weeks, fermentation is complete and the liquid manure is ready. Now she is waiting to be deployed.
The liquid manure should be diluted 1:10. For example, you can add them to the irrigation water and pour them over the plants. Another option is to spray them across the floor. Spray in a circle around plants prone to snail damage.
Other methods with male fern
The male fern, which changes generations, can be used as a cold extract. To do this, the fresh fronds are placed in water for 24 hours. The result is sieved and used undiluted. It also helps to simply lay the male fern fronds around the endangered plants or on the edge of the bed.
tips and tricks
A liquid manure or a cold extract from male fern also helps against lice and other vermin. At the same time it is a good fertilization for the plants.
