Available in many colors and flower shapes, chrysanthemums are very perennial flowering plants that show their splendor for many weeks to months. They can be cultivated not only in the garden, but also on the balcony or terrace.

Chrysanthemums are perennial
We usually keep chrysanthemums as annual flowers that are disposed of after flowering. In fact, however, they are perennial perennials that can be overwintered on the balcony with very little effort.
Overwinter hardy chrysanthemums in pots
However, the first step is to determine the species or variety. There are many hardy chrysanthemum varieties that can easily be overwintered outdoors. Others, on the other hand, need to be kept frost-free in winter under cold house conditions. Leave hardy chrysanthemums on the balcony, but place the pot against a heat-emitting wall. You should also wrap the pot in a jute sack (€10.99) or similar and cover the substrate with leaves and/or brushwood. Cut the plant itself back to just above the ground beforehand.
