Whether you prefer the delicate shape, the color or the intense scent of the flowers - every honeysuckle owner is looking forward to them. But when flowering is delayed, gloom and doubt set in. What causes can there be?

Reason #1: Inappropriate location
The main reason why some honeysuckles don't bloom is because of improper location. Especially if this climbing plant finds a place that is too shady, it will often not flower.
On the other hand, too sunny a location can result in no flowers appearing. Then the causes are heat and drought. In particular, the blazing midday sun does not like the honeysuckle. Too much heat and drought weaken this plant. The location should ideally have the following characteristics:
- partially shaded location
- protected
- high humidity
- Compass direction east or west
- Soil with a humid environment
Reason #2: Improper maintenance
Incorrect care can also lead to the loss of flowers. These include a lack of fertilizer (in nutrient-poor substrates), over-fertilization with nitrogen, too infrequent watering and a wrong cut. If you cut the honeysuckle too late, you will remove the flower buds. Therefore, this plant should be cut by March at the latest.
Reason #3: Disease and pest infestations
Diseases can also be behind a flower failure. Root rot, which results from a lack of drainage and too much moisture, causes the plant to die. Powdery mildew can also lead to individual parts of the plant dying and the flower buds also coming to an end.
In particular, pests such as aphids and mealybugs are reluctant to stop at a honeysuckle. They suck the energy from the leaves, leaving the honeysuckle with no power to form or open its flowers.
Additional reasons
Other reasons may be that the honeysuckle froze in winter. Stress from a transplant campaign can also be behind it. On top of that, if you grow your honeysuckle from seed or your honeysuckle is a cutting, you will have to wait a while for flowers.
tips and tricks
If necessary, it can help to transplant the honeysuckle and upgrade the soil with compost at the new location. If the bud drop was in the wrong location, the buds will surely show up soon.
